TAKE A LOOK BACK THROUGH OUR many YEARS OF HISTORY FROM OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO OUR AMBITIOUS FUTURE
The Pensacola Delta Enrichment Center, Inc. (hereinafter “PDEC”) began as a large group of volunteers from the Belmount-DeVilliers neighborhood located in Pensacola, Florida, who implemented educational program and services for senior citizens. PDEC sequentially was organized in August 2001 under the State of Florida as a nonprofit corporation. Pursuant to the Internal Revenue Code, PDEC is a 501 (c) (3) organization. With the exception of unrelated business income, PDEC is exempt from income taxes under applicable provision of Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.PDEC current organizational structure consists of (11) members on its Board of Directors and five (5) members on its Executive Board (Management) who are responsible for the day-to-day operations. An organizational structure chart with a list of the current Officers and Directors is included on page 5 of this report.The Executive Board is responsible for the day to day operations of PDEC and reports directly to its Board of Directors who has oversight responsibilities of the organization. In carrying out its mission and goals, PDEC also enlist the services of volunteers to help with the execution of different programs it engages in.PDEC is incorporated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, with the following focuses:
Leadership Development of Young People Community Outreach Management and Maintenance of the PDEC facility Capital Development
PDEC primarily depends on charitable donations from its members and the general public to fund its programs and operation. In addition, PDEC also apply for grants offered by various organizations and businesses to fund its programAlso, part of PDEC’s mission is to develop programs that focus on enchancing and improving the lives of those living in the Belmont-Devilliers neighborhood and the greater Pensacola Community. PDEC currently has several programs it engages/engaged in for carrying out its primary purpose and objectives. Such programs includes (but not limited to) the following:
Make a Difference Day – An annual event held on the last Saturday of October, where PDEC identified a need among the homeless community in Escambia County, and donated toiletries and other items for homeless shelter, and goods/ service at no cost to the community entities. PDEC collaborates with the Pensacola Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., (hereinafter PAC) a 501 (c) (7) organization, provides gifts cards and other items to children who are receiving medical care at the local children hospital. This program is made possible through funding from a grant awarded to PDEC.
Delta Academy – A mentoring program that PDEC participated in collaboration with the Pensacola Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for girls 11-14 years of age. The Delta Academy program provided service learning opportunities, social skills building workshops, and other educational, cultural, and artistic activities.
Delta Gems – A mentoring program that PDEC participated in collaboration with the Pensacola Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. of adolescent girls aged 14-18 years of age. The Gems program focus is on college and career planning through mentorship, service learning projects, and goal setting.
Cotillion – The Cotillion is an annual scholarship awards ceremony where graduating seniors of the Delta Gems program are awarded academic scholarships to their respective college or university that they will be matriculating in. The participants of the cotillion are presented to the public through a display of their academic, cultural, and artistic.
In 2017, another community service program that PDEC was involved in was the “Young, Gifted and Underprivileged – Warrington Arts Development Project” which was a program that worked with the Music Department at Warrington Middle School. This project was funded through a grant award from “IMPACT 100 of Pensacola, Florida”. This project focused on Arts & Culture in furthering the growth and development of Warrington Middle School students’ knowledge, love, and appreciation for the Arts. The project supported the Warrington Middle School Band through field trips to art and cultural events in the Greater Pensacola area, skill development through Summer Art camp, and increased access to perform and display their skills at competitions and cultural festivals in and around the state of Florida. The grant was also used purchased much band equipment and uniform. PDEC was awarded a $107,700 grant from IMPACT 100 Pensacola, Florida (nonprofit organization) in 2017 for this program. All funds received were disbursed as required by the terms of the grant.PDEC also provides senior services such as “We Care Breakfast” and various workshops.Through partnerships with neighboring public schools PDEC provides book fairs, health, fairs, neighborhood clean ups and summer enrichment programs for youth in grades K-5 through 6th grade. PDEC also serve as a disaster supply site as needed and a food bank site for the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas.Finally, PDEC members and its volunteers participates and assists with voting registration drives.With respect to the Cotillion program, during the year 2021, scholarships totaling $11,000 were awarded to five (5) high school graduates.PDEC also received a $ 900 grant from the “Ascend Cares Foundation” in 2021. The funds from this grant was used for the “Make A Difference Day” program as discussed earlier.PDEC also secured a $1,000.00 grant (Dollars for Doers Grant) from the Navy Federal Credit Union in October 2021. The funds from the afore mentioned grant will be used to provide more CommunityService as well as purchase educational materials for youth in the Pensacola surrounding community. PDEC has an ongoing fundraising program called “Campaign 1000”. The purposes of this program is for raising funds for the expansion of PDEC facility. This program was launched in October 2019 and during the year 2021, donations totaling $10,151.00 was also made to this program.All funds raised from each individual program is maintained in its restricted fund balance and is disbursed after proper approval and authorization.
